Pure crowler can amongst treesMany of us consider National Forests as the ultimate destination for both serenity and play, with their majestic mountains, winding rivers, inviting trails, tranquil lakes, and cozy campgrounds. While these beloved landscapes hold our hearts, they also call for our assistance.

Every year, more and more of our National Forests are affected by natural disturbances that cause deforestation. Planting trees helps restore forest cover to these lands, ensuring that our forests can continue to provide wildlife habitat, supply fresh water for millions, and enhance resiliency to future events.

In a collective effort to support reforestation in National Forests nationwide, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Smog City Brewing in Torrance, California to release two beers that will benefit our long-term partners, the National Forest Foundation (NFF).

Naturally, our desire to help preserve these beautiful natural places and our commitment to brewing beer for good guided us to partner with the NFF back in 2020.

THE NATIONAL FOREST FOUNDATION

The NFF is a non-profit organization that engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million-acre National Forest System, and administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the National Forests.

Through our ongoing partnership with the NFF and with your support, we’ve planted over 40,000 trees to date and aim to plant a total of 150,000 trees by the end of 2030.

“The National Forest Foundation is grateful to partner with Pure Project Brewing to reforest areas in critical need,” says Abby Schembra, the Reforestation Partnerships Coordinator for the NFF. “The trees planted will go on to provide incredible benefits like improved watershed health, wildlife habitat, forest health and resiliency, and natural climate solutions, to name a few.”

beneath the canopy & FOREST UNDERSTORY

Our contribution to this collaboration is Beneath the Canopy, a murky India pale ale featuring Citra, Cascade, and Cashmere hops. Smog City has crafted Forest Understory, an India pale ale with spruce tips. Beyond the tastefully crafted IPAs, the cohesive beer can artwork is an homage to the beauty of the forest. Each can displays a different forest view that, when stacked, forms a full picture of the tree ecosystem.

1% FOR THE PLANET: MAKING A DIFFERENCE

As members of the 1% for the Planet network, we and Smog City both donate 1% of top-line sales to environmental organizations working to protect the planet. In partnership with the NFF, a portion of sales from Beneath the Canopy and Forest Understory will go to supporting tree planting to preserve healthy forests for present and future generations.

“With the effects of rapid climate change becoming more apparent and extreme every day, environmental action is of critical importance,” says Laurie Porter, co-founder of Smog City Brewing.

🌎 Did you know?  To date, Pure Project has donated over $350,000 to grassroots environmental organizations through 1% For the Planet giving. Learn more about how we use Beer For Good here.

“In an era defined by collective action, partnerships like this illuminate the path forward, demonstrating that together, we have the power to cultivate a future where nature’s vitality and human aspirations harmoniously thrive,” says Schembra.
