The preservation of natural resources and the beautiful places around us is an essential part of our ethos here at Pure Project. Inherently, we are always looking for ways to use beer for good, which guided us to first participate in Yosemite Climbing Association’s clean-up event in Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Facelift, in years past.

After partnering with the YCA for the 2022 Yosemite Facelift, we knew we had to return for this year’s 20th-anniversary event. From bear box installations and sustainability panels to stoking people with beer, we were thrilled to be a part of this incredible cause once again!

FROM CRAGS TO CLEANUP: YOSEMITE FACELIFT

The Yosemite Facelift, initiated by Ken Yager, the founder of the Yosemite Climbing Association (YCA), took root within Yosemite National Park for the very first time in 2003. This yearly clean-up event attracts volunteers from all walks of life, every year, to come together for a common goal: To preserve and protect this breathtaking National Park.

In addition to Yosemite National Park, Facelift clean-up events have expanded to other locations across the country, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Joshua Tree National Park, and a place that’s even closer to our hearts at Pure: San Diego, the home of our five taprooms.

We are stoked to say that to date, our brewery has been a part of Yosemite Facelift, Joshua Tree Facelift, and the San Diego Seas to Summit clean-up event!

TEAM PURE HEADS NORTH

From September 20-24, 2023, a few of our team members had the opportunity to head north to Yosemite and experience the 20th Yosemite Facelift firsthand.

In addition to picking up litter and making sure all 21+ volunteers and sponsors were rewarded with refreshing beer, Pure’s special Facelift on-site project was installing new bear boxes at the Tamarack Flat Campground. If you’ve been to Yosemite or have heard about the wildlife there, you know how essential these metal boxes are in keeping our bear friends from getting into food, trash, lotions, and other scented items while camping in the park. We installed 37 bear boxes in the campground!

In addition, our Director of Marketing, Makenna Barris, also spoke on a panel during the event called “Beyond the Reusable Bag.” The discussion covered how innovative companies are rethinking low-impact product design. Other panelists included Kira Bouchard from Yosemite Conservancy (and longtime member of the Pure family), as well as representatives from Kodiak Cakes, Edelrid, Yosemite Hospitality, and Toad&Co.

TIOGA-SEQUOIA & PURE PROJECT FACELIFT BEER COLLABS

It’s practically a tradition. We joined forces with Fresno-based Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company to collaborate on a beer for the Yosemite Facelift event in 2022. This delicious brew, simply named “Yosemite Facelift” made an appearance again this year.

In addition to Yosemite Facelift, we also brewed a beer with Tioga-Sequoia for the first Joshua Tree Facelift event in 2022, and again for this year’s Joshua Tree Facelift, which took place in April.
