Celebrating Our Roots: Pure Project Turns Seven

As we approach our seventh anniversary, it is naturally a time for reflection. The past seven years have bestowed a mix of ups and downs. Through the turmoil of the last few years, we are more humbled and honored than ever to be here to celebrate with all of you.

We’re grateful for the opportunity these years have given us to become closer to our community, to deepen our relationships with the environmental organizations we support, and for all the incredible memories we’ve gained along the way. 

So whether you’ve enjoyed our beer for the first time recently, have been a fan since the beginning, or have supported us at any time over the years—thank you. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.

PURE BEER STARTED IN THE JUNGLE

As you may know, before there was Pure Project, there was Manuel Antonio Brewing Company. 

Inspired by the tropical ingredients and jungle backdrop, a brewery dedicated to the pura vida—or the pure, simple life—was born in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with a commitment to local, seasonal, and sustainable brewing. Suffice it to say, a town without a proper sewage system (and other important infrastructures we take for granted) turned out to be a tough place to grow a fledgling brewery.

Long story short, two years after raising money, brewing in the jungle, and going through the “eventful” process of starting the business in Costa Rica, we had a decision to make: try to make the brewery work in an area that didn’t have the right infrastructure for such an operation, or move the business back to America. A few twists of fate later and Pure was bringing the pura vida back to San Diego.

cheers to seven years

As an homage to the luscious Pure backdrop of its early Costa Rica days, we’re putting rainforests on full display as our 7th anniversary theme. The party will be held at our Miramar taproom on January 28, 2023—pre-sale tickets are sold out, but we will have a limited amount of tickets available at the door. And, what would an anniversary be without some new, unique releases? 

Resplendent Quetzal, a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with pecans and vanilla, was the first of four beer releases that were brewed in honor of this special occasion (not to mention the exclusive new brews we will have on draft only at our anniversary party!).
