We are very excited to be releasing another new beer to our San Diego Fans on July 29th, both at the Pure Project Tap Room in Miramar and @ Urge Gastropub in Rancho Bernardo to celebrate their 6th anniversary.
Watch as Chef Chuy and Pure Brewmaster Winslow Sawyer talk about why and how the Japanese Inspired Triple IPA – ONI was born. You don’t wanna miss this one.
Here are the tasting notes on ONI:
ABV = 11.5% | IBU = 65
Raising the glass for your first sip, you are greeted by aromas of mango, tropical fruits, citrus and coconut as you begin to notice that this is not your typical Triple IPA. Oni, from Japanese folklore is loosely translated as “Demon”.
Winslow utilizes rice to achieve a smooth, dry and deceptively light 11.5% ABV beer with all the flavor and depth of a San Diego IIIPA. The addition of rice brings down the residual sugars which allows for a high alcohol beer without “thickness” thus allowing the hops to shine through.
In this case, Sorachi Ace hops (originally developed by Sapporo in Japan and named after the Sorachi Region of Hokkaido) lead the way while Mosaic, Centennial, Columbus and Cleopatra provide additional layers of complexity to the dankness.
Thanks to Inside The Craft for the video and industry support.
NOTE: We have a lot of beer and bottle releases coming up the next few months, so make sure your on the list for updates here.
